• We are not a gym, social club, or a governmental body. We do not levy fees, dues, or taxes. We are a loving community, and if you need love or have some to share, you belong with us.
• The average cost per month per pledger for the expenses of this church is about $165, but we do not expect that from everyone. What might be impossible for one person might be too easy for the person sitting next to them.
• Financial support for our community comes primarily from pledged gifts, good for one year at a time. “Love is our religion,” and so is generosity.

  • For some of our members and friends the harmful effects of the fire have financial consequences. If you need to suspend or reduce your pledged amount or your pledge payments, please notify Jennifer Luce, Office Manager, at 805-644-3898, extension 100, or by emailing administrator@uuventura.org.
  • UUCV maintains three or months of reserves for its own expenses to help maintain our community’s ability to deal with unknown financial changes.

• Our budget is created in March and April, but our budget years start July 1 and end June 30 of the following year. Our primary source of revenue is from annual pledges that also start July 1. This current budget year, 2017/2018, members and friends annual and bridge pledge donations are expected to be 92% of total income.
• Some of the factors affecting our pledge donations are economic depressions, inheritances, illness, disability, unemployment, moves out of the area, membership terminations, new members, and deaths. As far as we know, none of our members or friends ever won the lottery.

• There are three primary sources of income for our church. Everyone is familiar with pledge payments because we review and renew ours every year. The other sources are planned gifts, and contributions for capital campaigns, such as the Outdoor Sanctuary Project. The most common planned gifts come to us from members and friends wills and trusts.
• This year we have a unique program called Wake Now Our Vision. For those who have named UUCV and other UU entities in their will or trust, or as beneficiaries of a, retirement plan or life insurance policy, we will get matching funds from UUA/Shelter Rock grants. • Do you find the annual church budget about as accessible as a Rubik’s Cube? Help is on the way to create a program budget each year, in addition to our wonky official budget. A program budget shows how funds are apportioned for our needs and programs rather than the way they are shown on our official budget. Watch for it. Coming soon. The program categories for our functional budget will be: 1. Building Community, 2. Children’s Religious Education, 3. Social Justice, 4. Stewardship (human, financial and real assets), 5. Supporting our UU Movement, 6. Worship and Music
• Our most important financial goal is to increase annual pledges by approximately $40,000 per year by April 2019 when the 2019-2020 budget will be constructed. This is an average monthly increase of $16 per pledger.

  • Most pledge payments are dropped in the offering bags each Sunday, but sometimes we don’t make it to church on Sunday. This creates a need to remember when to write a monthly check for our monthly pledge payment. You can order monthly checks sent from your bank’s bill paying system, or you can have the church order monthly payments for you (See instruc­tions below.)
  • The benefit to you is you have one less task to remember and one less check to write each month. The benefit to the church is that your pledge payments will match your pledged amount, and that will reduce the accounting tasks and follow up phone calls needed to balance the church books.
