GIVING AWAY OUR OFFERING

Since 2012, we’ve been giving away our entire offering each week. Instead of keeping it in the church, we use the money we raise to help people in the world around us.

We do this as a way to be part of the change we want to see in the world…by helping others in our community and in our larger Unitarian Universalist movement. We decide who receives the offering by a vote of the whole congregation.  Three times a year, groups apply, and the congregation chooses the recipients in an open process in our fellowship hall. Results are shared with the congregation via the monthly newsletter, and Sunday, the Worship Associate shares a story about the difference the group makes to others.

In our most recent church year, approximately $50,000 was given away; this is only a partial list of recipients:

  • Casa Pacifica Children’s Shelter
  • CROP Walk
  • Ventura Homeless Prevention Fund
  • Ventura Homeless Prevention Partnership
  • Ventura One Stop
  • School on Wheels for homeless children
