Re-inhabiting the Church
RE-INHABITING THE CHURCH Dear Members and Friends, A few weeks ago, Rev. Dana and Yukio Okano shared the first in a series of Between Sundays posts about Re-Inhabiting the Church. Part one can be read here. I am here to share part two. Reserving...

A Beloved Community
On January 12, the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) launched UU the Vote, its campaign focused on the 2020 elections. Join the effort and answer the call from UUA President, Susan Frederick-Gray for a gathering of UU congregations to stand for democracy.
UU Santa Paula, Chalice UU, and UU Ventura have helped to create positive change in our communities throughout the years, including fighting for justice issues that we as Unitarian Universalists hold dear. Now, efforts are gearing up for the primary elections in March and the presidential and congressional elections in November. The Unitarian Universalist Association’s new “UU the Vote” effort is encouraging UUs to get involved.
We will provide a variety of ways to answer this call. Are you interested in finding out more or volunteering to help in any way? Contact Jimmy V.

Vote Forward Letters to Georgia
Envelope Writing:
Either electronically or in hard copy delivery, you receive a cover sheet listing the names and addresses, and a form letter to use for each name. At the bottom of each letter is the name of the addressee and the return address we use. We write in their names and there is a short paragraph for us to tell why it is important for us to vote.
If you choose to write all the envelopes first or the letters first, please be sure you match up with names on letters and envelopes. The campaign asks that we use blue ink to make it more personal. They suggest printing the words is better than using script. View this document for step by step instructions.
The reasons you vote could be to voice your values, make sure your voice is heard, exercise your right to vote etc. See this document for samples of responses (paragraphs, phrases, etc.) prepared by our volunteers. We’re a non-profit organization and the words need to be non-partisan.
Envelopes and Stamps:
Envelopes and stamps for each letter will be provided to you. The process for this is the same as when you receive pre-printed letters. Oxnard, Ventura, Ojai, and Santa Paula residents may send requests for delivery through Jimmy at: jimmy@uuventura.org.
Envelopes Kept Aside-Do Not Mail!
Please hold on to the addressed and stamped envelopes. We will pick them up for delivery to UU Ventura for handling. We will create an easy way to get them all back. These are meant to go out in October. Please Do Not Mail them!!!
How to Donate
Social Justice and Philanthropy at UUCV
Social Action Coordinating Committee
Social justice and action is an important part of our mission UU Church of Ventura’s Social Action Coordinating Committee (SACC) provides members and friends opportunities to act upon their UU principles as they learn more about social justice issues, provide direct service, advocate for systemic change, and strategically distribute their resources. It also sponsors the “Big Picture Film Series”, a screening of films that explore root causes of social and/or environmental action issues.
Climate Justice
The 7th Principle Environmental Action Team
Concern for climate justice and the environment is the centerpiece of our commitment to the earth, as we work toward a vision of a healthier, more sustainable future. We hold educational events for all ages. They shape attitudes and build practices that are sustainable and spiritually-grounded as we work together towards a cleaner, more just and sustainable world.
End Homelessness
Lift Up Your Voice
We work with the homeless community, social service organizations, and government officials to ensure that the needs and interests of people experiencing homelessness are not only heard but form the basis of services and policies. We also provide direct support to the homeless community, through our support of programs like Safe Sleep, the Homelessness Prevention Fund, River Haven, Home to Stay, and many others.
Immigration Justice
Action Team for Immigrant Rights
Just as love knows no borders, our dedication to justice reaches across boundaries and walls. Our mission is to be involved with, support, and take action to defend the people and communities that are directly impacted by unjust immigration laws and policies in the United States. NO HUMAN BEING IS ILLEGAL!
Giving Away Our Offering
Inreach/Outreach Committee
Since 2012, we’ve been giving away our entire offering each week. Instead of keeping it in the church, the money we raise helps people in the world around us. We do this as a way to be part of the change we want to see in the world… by helping others in our community and in our larger Unitarian Universalist movement. We decide who receives the offering by a vote of the whole congregation.
