New Bicycle Parking – An invitation to Ride Your Bike to Church

by Ray Vargas
In celebration of Earth Day and our church’s advocacy and commitment to a Green Sanctuary, new bicycle parking in the shape of “inverted-U’s” has been installed along the exterior east wall of the sanctuary.
Offering eight spaces, with additional parking located by the children’s playground, the bike parking allows members and visitors a convenient way to help heal our Earth and further the Seventh Principle of our Unitarian Universalist faith: The interdependent web of all existence.
Riding a bicycle or walking instead of using an automobile just once a week, reduces one’s CO2 emissions to the atmosphere by 20%!
The health benefits of riding a bike or walking are boundless, and can be enjoyed by people of all ages, physical abilities, or athletic ambitions. Riders remark how they experience the world in a whole new way. Whether to help unburden, even liberate thought and spirit, cycling can be uplifting and healing.
The new bicycle parking station is from members Terry Spragg, in memory of his wife Gina, and Ray Vargas.
This project was made possible by the 7th Principle Environmental Action Team and the B & G Committee.

You’re Invited to the Party!

Celebration Sunday April 9.
We will celebrate the abundance and generosity of this congregation with a special luncheon after church. Together in the service we will make our pledges to the congregation for the coming year. Then our newly formed Stewardship Team will throw everyone a grand Thank You! Party.
This has been such a year for UUCV. We have welcomed and installed our new minister, Rev. Dana Worsnop. We have weathered an election season like no other. We have marched together, cried together, said tender goodbyes to dear ones. We have welcomed the new people pouring through our doors – so many that plans are underway for getting more chairs. We have continued to reach out into the community advocating for and serving people who are without homes. We have deepened our environmental awareness in the whole community, from our youngsters to our sage elders.
In the next year we will welcome a new Director of Religious Education and likely completely renovate our play area, revamp the acoustics and sound system in the sanctuary. We will also say goodbye to our beloved administrator Becky Burnham and welcome a new staff person.
There is so much to celebrate. Come to the party, make your pledge to support the mission of this vibrant community, and let the celebrations begin!

UU Kid’s Corps

The UU Kids Corps puts RE values and teachings into action, giving kids and families volunteer opportunities with a minimal time commitment from parents.

Here’s how it works:

Our goal is to provide a service/social action event each month. Twelve families will sign up to coordinate one event. For an hour’s effort, you get a year’s worth of activism!

Possible activities include:

  • Work with UU RiverHaven outreach • Sing at a nursing home • Volunteer at an animal shelter event • Join in a beach cleanup day • Make care packages for homeless folks • Develop kids activities at a protest march

Many organizations have activities and a coordinator for a particular event The coordinator will need to know a date, numbers of attendees, and any age or accessibility restrictions.

A signup sheet will be posted at all the classrooms. You determine the activity, the date and time. Contact Vanessa Frank for ideas and support.
