Leadership Covenant

Leadership in the Unitarian Universalist Church of Ventura is a sacred trust, one we do not exercise alone. When we serve as a leader, be it as a committee member, a committee chair or a member of the Board of Trustees, we agree to be a part of the governance system of our church. We promise to listen and consider all viewpoints with an open mind and to make decisions within accepted democratic processes. Once a decision has been made, we go forward together, because the integrity of the process is more important than any single decision.

Open Men's Support Group

“Conundrum, crisis or a more commonplace concern understanding myself can come from listening to other men.” Men talk about more than sports and politics in the Open Men’s Support Group. All men in the UU community are welcome to attend this group to enjoy fellowship, camaraderie and personal sharing. It’s for prospective members who want to find out more about the church. In the past, many people who participated in this group were initially unsure about becoming members but later joined the church. A significant number have gone on to form their own groups.

Building and Grounds Work Parties

Building and Grounds Work Parties take place on the third Saturday of every month from 9 am until 12 noon. During the Saturday work parties, we take on repair and upkeep projects such as changing fluorescent light tubes, gardening, sweeping the parking lot, repairing the irrigation along with some good conversation. Please feel free to attend as your schedule allows.

Governance at UU Church of Ventura

UUCV’s programmatic governance style means that our board has at-large members who engage in mission and vision work, and empower committee decision-making. Our Board sees governance as its job; it aspires to act as chief steward of the congregation’s human and material resources to ensure that UUCV serves its mission. Loosely quoting Hotchkiss: By “not doing day-to-day management, the board fills meetings with ‘a rich diet’ of discernment work, community learning and reflecting on ‘open questions’ that sit just past the horizon.”
